Contest: Win An Access Fund Holiday Pack

Last year I ran a contest giving away Access Fund Holiday Prize Packs, and I enjoyed it so much we're doing it again this year.

Like last year the rules will remain simple.  To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post about whatever you have on your mind these days.  The number of prize packs given out will be determined by the level of participation, the more people that comment the more prize packs I will give out.  I'd like to aim for 1 prize pack per 50 entries, but that is subject to change.  You have until Wednesday, November 18th to enter.

The prize will be the Basic Holiday Package, here is what you can win:

  • A 1-year Access Fund Membership to help keep your crags open
  • A 1-year subscription to Rock & Ice magazine (a $30 value)!
  • Access Fund organic cotton tee T-shirt from prAna
  • Omega Pacific keylock biner engraved with “Access Fund”
  • prAna Signature Hemp Cap to keep your noggin cool
  • RESTOP bag system: just because a bear goes in the woods doesn’t mean you should
  • Higher Ground Roasters’ Access Fund Brew
  • Seasonal flavored Clif Bars (think gingerbread and pumpkin spice)

accessfundpricepack

This is open to U.S. and international readers alike, so spread the word.  If you don't happen to win, you are strongly encouraged to support the Access Fund, or your local access organization, on your own in any way that you are able to.

Keep in mind that all the ad revenue generated by this site goes to access causes like this.  Every time you click an ad AND buy something, you are helping keep your crags open and functioning.

    Gotta love free stuff!

  2. Mic

    Great contest!
How to get enough money for a bouldering trip to Hampi, is whats on my mind these days. It might not work out but hey, dreams are there to be dreamed and made into reality, if not today then maybe tomorrow.

  3. Dan

Narc is giving away his package to multiple peeps??? Great success!!!

  4. Paul

Like Mic, what's on my mind is how to fund a more climbing-oriented lifestyle. The rat-race FTL. :(

  5. Connor Doherty

A holiday pack would be awesome for us unfortunante mid-west climbers who have to travel 6 hours to get to our home crag.

  6. Matt C.

Always in when free is involved!

  7. RK

Well, you'll have to count me in for this one!

    Thanks,
    RK

  8. Adam Morgan

I am working on developing a wicked new limestone crag near here... secret and hard to access at the moment.

    it's gonna be awesome!

  9. Nate D

will it ever cool off in the southeast.

  10. Kate C

Monday morning, before coffee, I have no thoughts yet. Free stuff is good though.

    Must.find.coffee.

  11. Mark F.

That coffee and hat would sure keep nice and toasty this winter....

  12. Julian

    a) everyone loves swag.

    b) I'm so vain. So vain, in fact, that I'm self-linking.

    c) other stuff.

  13. eddie

    i heart rocks.

  14. John

    Hooray Narc and Access Fund!

  15. Guillaume

Nice contest. It will give some pub to access fun this year,again... I hope it will become a tradition each year.

  17. Fernando Lucas

nice contest! cool that I can participate from brasil!!!!

  18. nicholas

i am a recent discoverer of ClimbingNarc and love it.

at the moment i'm wondering how to create a more active outdoor climbing lifestyle while living in the flatlands of florida.

  19. Clay

That Prana hat looks like the one worn by a serial killer on Dexter...

  20. ktmt

    Access Fund --totally worthy!

  21. Stu Allen

Some free brew as well??? Count me in. One can never have enough coffee ... can they?

  22. Melinda

Here I sit coffee in hand, listening to NPR news, watching my dog eat his breakfast, computer at my fingertips, staring out at the wasatch front deciding what to make of my day off. I think i'll go boulder on some granite goodness. THAT is what's on my mind at the moment. That and I'm really stoked I made scones yesterday..mmm...breakfast...

  23. Cory

    school stress = losing strength

  24. Dan

What a coincidence. My Rock and Ice subscription just ran out and my AF membership runs out in a couple weeks. Of course AF still gets my money, because of the amazing work they do.

  25. Adam

    Count me in please!

  26. Remo

Sending Moj and other hard problems at the Lake with you Narc, that's what I am thinking about. Oh and my delicious Monday morning coffee.

    1. steve schultz

Yes Remo!! That's what I like to see!! Katie and I are going on Wednesday. Beautiful Soup and Moj!! You in??

  27. John Knoernschild

Sweet! Thx for the fun holiday contest Narc.

    Climb on!

  28. Sean

    mmm..coffee..

  29. Josh

    I need coffee. Now.

  30. Mark

What I'm thinking about is the cortisone shot I am getting in my elbow next week to hopefully allow me to start climbing again. Hopefully the doc can work some magic.

  31. Joe

Now I'm feeling guilty for not renewing my AF membership this year, as money was supertight when the time rolled around.

  32. Jason K

    Working less and climbing more.

  33. Chris H.

I'm thinking I need to move out of Florida. I'm tired of driving 7 hours to go bouldering. I've got an offer to stay at a friend's place in L.A. That seems like a good option.

  34. Michael C

rain in the NW kind of makes climbing tough. but hope everyone keeps supporting the purchase of index lower town wall. great place to climb!

  35. Marc

Access Fund? Hells YEAH I'm in! Which reminds me folks, 'tis the season Ask your friends and family for the gift that GIVES BACK. That's right, put a membership to the Access Fund on your wish list and you'll score great things in Karma.

  36. Corey

    This is rad

  37. Tony

Hype to get back to wisconsin in a few weeks, and crush at the lake.

  38. -C-

A bunch of big, beautiful new boulders outside of Tucson are on my mind these days. That and LOST season 6.

  39. Cady

I can always use some free stuff. Hope I do well!

  40. Art

Since being in the NW, training inside is what is on my mind lately...

  41. Eli

I'm writing to point out the new series on the National Park System on PBS. Although I haven't been able to watch much of it yet, the series is critically acclaimed and showcases some of the greatness that is America.

Yosemite, Zion, Joshua Tree, Arches, the Grand Tetons are all National Parks with spectacular climbing. I'd like to thank the Access Fund for their work with the NPS to maintain and improve climbing access in National Parks.

  42. Tom B.

Dear all of you that will lose this contest,

Please don't get bitter when you don't win anything. Just continue to support the access fund and become a member if you're not one already.

  43. crackedpiton

The only thing on my mind these days is climbing...I broke my fingers 5 weeks ago from over training, and now I have another week till I can get back on the rock.

  44. Ruze

Yewwww!!!! I looove the Access Fund - and now, after almost 2 yrs of not climbing b/c of injuries, I am uber-beyond-psyched to get back into the game & take advantage of some climbing!

  45. Pat

Less than 3 weeks to Hueco Tanksgiving...

  46. Mike M

How to better engage my clients who are un-medicated, uncooperative, and full of potential recovery...

In addition to climbing my arms off...

  47. Mark

Yeah. Might as well do something climbing related and supportive while chillin with a bum hand!

  48. JGG

Super psyched about this contest. thx

  49. Matt Hoffmann

"leave a comment on this post about whatever you have on your mind these days"

The fact that the forecast in Squamish has rain or snow for the next 7 days, the mountains aren't open for skiing yet and the indoor gym flooded a few days ago... And that I'm leaving in 2 days for Red Rocks! :D

    So excited.

Thanks for the contest, Narc. Good luck to everyone.

    -Matt

  50. Mark

Another injured climber chiming in because I like free stuff.

  51. DP

    Broncos-Steelers tonight, GO Broncos!

what is on my mind is eating free stuff!

  55. Greg Kerzhner

Broke the wrist 3 months ago and can start climbing in just over a week!

  56. danny smith

    three final papers

  62. cheech

Access Fund + potential for free stuffs = win

  63. Andre

Who doesn't love contests, ClimbingNarc and the Access Fund! http://www.accessfund.org/site/c.tmL5KhNWLrH/b.4861253/k.BDBB/Home.htm

  64. hosebeats

I will never be able to speak Spanish unless I go and spend a significant amount of time in a Spanish speaking country.
    -And-
Why did I leave my project until too late in the season?

  65. Jason Bourdette

Love climbing, have been climbing about 5-6 years. Just getting into Trad climbing and looking forward to trying so longer and harder routes. This is a great site. I check it often.

  66. J V

What's on my mind is this status from Rock and Ice magazine: "Climbers enjoy life to the fullest, laugh the hardest, travel the most and work the least."

So, having a desk job, does that mean I don't qualify? DAMMIT!

  67. Justin

I like the idea of entering to win a prize pack a whole lot more than cleaning my dogs open wound again.

  68. Elliott

I am thinking about where I should climb for Thanksgiving weekend. I'll probably stay here in Arkansas. Boulder or sport? That is the question. Cowell? Cave Creek? HCR? Probably hit up the projects at Area 74 on the way to wherever.

  69. Fritz

It was beautiful climbing weather in Connecticut this last weekend. It's just such a damn shame that the days have to be so short...

  70. Adam Stackable

I freaking want to win!!!! Elliot, you should sport climb at HCR..

  71. Jordan

Im a big fan of clif bars. Good contest.

  72. David Ray

    Cool idea, Narc.

Few things on my mind as I write this from Rome. I'll be sad when my semester abroad is over but I'm looking forward to graduating college in the spring and moving out west to Boulder and finally getting in some real climbing.

  73. Cleatus

My thoughts are that this sweet pork salad will promote sending in the upcoming week. Also, contests are rad gnar.

  74. entropy

Projects are on my mind...always projects. Oh...and papers for school...damn the papers!

  75. Sam

Gaining a bit more strength for my upcoming trip over Thanksgiving Holiday.

  76. Jennie

I'll tell you whats on my mind...what happened to thrift stores having awesomely bad clothes? I went there today for some retro climbing attire (read hot pink spandex and a day-glo shirt but all they had was clothes normal people would actually wear. Is there a shortage of 80s fashion or is some little old lady just hoarding them all away?

  77. Stoaform

    Beautiful weather and birthday parties.

  78. Sarah

Getting ready to compete in my first comp - the Triple Crown event at the Stone Fort in Chattanooga on the first Saturday in December! Unfortunately my training got all thrown off by a pesky illness... it's amazing how fast strength disappears! Guess I just have to work twice as hard now.

  79. LBM

    Support the Access Fund.

  80. GOD

    I love free stuff!!!!!!!!!

This is such a good promotion. Awesomeness.

  81. Rob

I love free stuff!!!! I just never win it but it's worth a shot!

  82. Blend120

I love this website.... almost as much as free stuff!

  83. Phunk

My back hurts too much to climb, that is what's on my mind. :(

  84. Ian

what i got on my mind is my college application to CU Boulder, for the.................. academics not climbing

  85. Patrick

I am thinking about the next climbing trip, the next time I will be sitting by a campfire recounting the sends and the flails, and wondering who wants to go.

  86. phillip

You are very handsome, Mr. Narc.

  87. Xavier Shay

I wasn't able to reclaim my climbing mag sub from Progression coz I'm not in the US so I'm totally owed some swag.

  88. Tyson

Yay! Free stuff! I love climbing!

  89. Nick

I think one key to climbing gaining more mainstream exposure in the US is for collegiate clubs to get organized into actual college teams (perhaps w/ NCAA involvement)

  90. Eric

how to train for sport climbing and bouldering and actually perform well at both!!! I'm sure that having a magical hobo toilet will help in some way...

  91. GOD

Can we respond more than once?

    1. Narc

You can respond more than once, but only 1 entry will be counted.

  92. Lee

I fly out to Vietnam in 1 day for 3 weeks of sport climbing and DWS action. Bring it!

  93. Lil' Pete

Having spent a little bit too long on the RESTOP website, I'm now super intrigued by their 'toys'!

Plus being in the UK I've never tried a CLIF bar :(

(Actually saying that they may actually be on sale in my climbing gym squinting at the pictures)

  94. Justin

I found out today that my ex-wife who's not yet my ex-wife is trying to screw me for 500 dollars a month in child support - and we share 50/50 custody of two kids. On top of that, she's so psychotic, that she's already pregnant with another man's baby and has a wedding date set before we've even filed the divorce papers. Ain't life grand...btw, I'm a medium, medium/large in T'shirts....thanks.

  95. JohnW

I'm stuck at a military school on my birthday, didnt do anything to celebrate and havent been climbing since august, I'm freaking out!

  96. Omar

Score for winnings, prices have been going up these days.

Can't wait to get out and climb once this Hurricane passes through

  97. JessieT

On lodge south the car in front me's license plate said "WTUPDOE" and as I pulled into my condo complex, a 2009 Orange challenger and 1970s Black Chevy SS both on 24s were waiting to get in. I'm in Detroit yo.

  98. Chris

Why are things always so much better when they're free? I love it.

  99. Mark Stahl

Free climbing goodies I will gladly accept in the tundras of Minnesota!

  100. Christopher

I am thinking about a Rock and Ice subscription that would sustain me as I prepare to winter it out in the black hole that is Platteville Wisconsin.

  101. gabe

only 12 days left till a week of bishoprimpy-fest! whoot!

  102. Technimad

LAst week my mind has been fulltime of that nasty blue 6a route at My local climbing gym. How to get to those last two recling holds on the overhang? Tried to figure out this puzzle in my head, tonight i'll go for it again!

  103. William Swanson

My name is William, and I support this activity.

  104. RyanDubbya

has been thinking about el Potrero for new years, just got the idea of Pico de Orizaba in my head today.

  105. Max

sweet deal. coffee and rock and ice for the morning wakeup, and then a shirt and biner to send some gunks routes.

  106. Jasper

Great contest! The only thing on my mind is when I can climb hard again, because now I'm stuck with 2 finger pully injuries..

  107. greg

pondering a couple of yet unfinished projects that will have to wait until spring, and also wondering when the best time to blow off work for a week at red rocks is going to be...

  108. John Edward Harris

What is on my mind these days? I have not climbed since spring, and I am thinking how content I can be leading a 5.6 the Gunks. I work a real job that often keeps me at a desk and cannot afford the time or the cost of sharpening my climbing skills week after week, or even weekend after weekend, especially not at my age of 50+. Give me a blue sky, sun on face, the aroma of spruce, and bare knuckles against sun warmed rock while on a 5.5 or 5.6 any day and I will be content.

  109. Paul Campbell

    I wants free stuff!

  110. Jason Clements

I love your site - always something worth reading. Keep up the great work. I just got back from HCR with my wife and 3 children 11, 8, and 5. The best part was snuggling all together outside on a blanket, looking straight up at the milky way and catching some shooting stars. Not many things in life better than that. Peace, Jason

  111. Sarah

    Devil's Lake on Friday!

  112. h1n1

    Free Schwagg.

  113. Ryan J

oaxaca ebit!! yaga waga dank mon!

  114. TheSend

Excited and nervous about moving to Utah in less than a month. Can't wait to check out LCC and joe's. Hope the economy actually has room for new graduates out there. Peace.

  115. Erik P

    Free stuff is awesome.

  116. Bert

I'm dirt poor right now. Bring on the freebies!!

  117. Ian

I am at work and just got off the phone with a customer service rep in Colorado. He told me it was 70°F there. All I was thinking about during the call (instead of bandwidth and technical stuff) was climbing on some sweet, sweet stone in warm weather.

  118. AB

I'm thinking that when gravity calls, sometimes you shouldn't pick up...
(and that a sprained ankle sucks and is motivating all at the same time..)

    Thanks for the contest!

  119. Jesse Reynolds

I have a kid on the way and need all the inspiration I can get to beleive that my climbing life won't be negatively affected. Hook it up. Thats what I'm thinking about.

  120. kris

My yearly Access Fund membership is just about due up, what a coincidence. Support the AF!

  121. Jesse

Woohoo, free stuff!! Narc, you just treat all of us hooligans so nicely!

  122. dan

    Life the universe and everything

  123. Brandon

i'm working on planning a roadie to Ouray, CO this winter. it would be my first time giving ice climbing a go. hope it pans out!

  124. Drew Thach

Thanks for the great site, it makes staying up on the latest climbing news and videos so much easier. I have really enjoyed this site and it has only helped affirm my love for climbing!

  125. Philly Cheese

I am thinking about Rumney, that beautiful Schist, a nice Old brown dog ale, camping at Baker...ripping my tips to shreds!

  126. Mike Michaels

    Yay booty!

  127. Matt

What's on my mind is: will shaving all my body hair off my make me climb better? Would my friends think this is weird? Would I care if I climbed two grades harder?

Just one of my many thoughts.

  128. Daniel

I just (re)discovered the five ten blog. Some interesting news you won't find anywhere else (even here ;-))
    http://fiveten.com/wpmu/tour/

  129. Luke

I am shocked this comment list hasn't hit 200 yet. Bring up the STATS!!!

  130. kate

Free stuff? I'm in. Great website!

  131. Sarah Kate

    I love free stuff!

  132. Matt

I'm worried my finger injury is really serious as it hurts during day to day activities. I need to get an MRI and see my orthopedic surgeon :/

  133. Tim B.

    MmMmN! Cliff bars !
    I eat you!
    Nom NOM NOM NOM!!!!! \:D/

  134. Chase

"The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both"
    - Thanks little brother for this amazing quote-

  135. Nick

Just got back from a pretty sweet long weekend climbing sport at HCR- recommendations go out to everyone!

  136. Kreg

The other day I was thinking about the efficacy of a blown-gun propelled syringe of adrenaline or super oxegenated blood (http://www.popsci.com/scitech/article/2006-11/better-blood) at the crux of a route.

    Ethics?

  137. Tom

    On my mind right now:

"How to complete my basement bouldering wall in time so that my 3 year old daughter can try it out on her birthday in a couple of weeks!"

  138. Pat S.

Re: climbing. What's on my mind is people who talk way more than is helpful to anyone and climb far less than is logical (until it hurts of course). Climbing is not about the best, the hardest, the longest or the strongest. For me anyway, climbing is about being obsessed with an awesome sport and wanting nothing more than to be continually improving and sending harder (whatever hard may be for you). A track coach once said, "talk slow, run fast." I think a climber would echo this thought, "climb hard, speak softly."

    Cheers

  139. Logan Smith

    Word.

  140. Myles

I like your site and I'm glad to see people supporting the Access Fun!!

  141. sicky

on my mind is a trip to red rocks in a few weeks...but first i have to get over this h1n1 flu :(

  142. splitter choss

bummed the weather crapped out for the weekend, looks like it's plastic pulling for us!

  143. Kevin Cady

I am thinking that I am not climbing nearly enough seeing as though the winter weather will be here soon.

  144. Jonathan

I would love to get something for nothing...the American Dream.

  145. Jeb Bruno

    Kate McGinnis

    Alex Puccio

    Alex Johnson

  146. Tiffany

Love the new climbing gym in Fountain Inn, SC. Can't wait to get climbing up in NC with the bouldering team.

    Woot to free gear!

  147. Janet

I've been thinking about my honeymoon trip to Yosemite & Bishop next year, can't wait!

  148. Andrew Hou

Free climbing stuffz for the win!

  149. Johawk

My wife and I just had a our first child. Henry is a killer little guy but the reality of him means I'm not going on a bouldering trip any time soon. All I've got to tide me over is reading climbing mags, coming to this site and trying not to buy a bunch of gear online. So maybe winning this will help me from ripping my hair out.

  150. Sandra

recovering from broken ankle, perusing climbing mags and watching climbing videos. Awaiting the time when hands and feet can touch rock once again. For now only send is a climb up 3 flights of stairs.

  151. Jeff

For some reason, if you have two coprime ideals, any two powers of those ideals will still be coprime. But I'm having trouble proving this. So that's what I woke up thinking about today, and I'm still thinking about it.

  152. Aryan Goharzad

Chris sharma's been climbing for more than a couple decades, but he's only improved like a quarter degrees ( from 14.d to 15.a ) , I wonder if this is almost the most a human being is able to climb ...

  153. Marx

A holiday pack would be awesome! Looking forward to some ice climbing in the North East in the next couple of weeks.

  154. Mike Tinklenberg

    Thank God it's not raining!!!

  155. Sean

Hoping the pretty pictures in Rock & Ice could cure my hangover after the Pixies concert last night

  156. Ben

How I'm going to manage to get outside more often next month. This fall has been abysmal for crimping and sloper...ing(?)

  157. Tom

    Clif bars are soo good.

  158. Aryan

I'm getting addicted to climbing chalks !

  159. Kevin Post

ON MY MIND: I have lived in Florida almost my entire life and have been addicted to climbing for several years. I was a member of the local climbing gym going five days a week or more (even when I was too sore to climb I still went to show support and belay). My co-workers and I spent a lot of money taking climbing trips (no rockclimbing in Florida). Now I live in Colombia amongst the mountains but I have only gone climbing four times since January. What the hell is wrong with me? A few years ago I had dreamed of living amongst the mountains so that I could climb some real rock more often; now I live here and I am not taking advantage to the situation! Maybe some Access Fund gear will help me get out of this rut!

  160. Kimberley Gray

I could use those free goodies when I travel to Malta next month to check out the climbing there. I can't wait to check out the routes!!

Not a bad way to spend the Christmas Holidays for someone who is 51. :-) Climb on Women!

  161. Emily

I have realized that a person cannot try to hold onto life when all that makes them do is let go. I have recently let go! Climbing reminds me of what it is to be free and caught up where time doesn't exist :). I know this is almost the last day to comment, but man those cliff bars look yummy haha.

  162. Gregor

I can't wait to throw on that hat and shirt so that I can be stylin' while I enjoy a cup of joe and a festive bar. That portable toilet sure will come in handy because you never know when the terror of coffee and fiber will strike. Thank god I'll have some reading material because it might take a while. Luckily that carabiner will keep my keys from falling out of my pocket while I'm squatin'.

  163. Narc

Thanks to everyone who entered. Sorry to hear so many of you are injured!

The winners will be announced soon.
