his partner seemed more stoked than he did

Just another day at the office for Nalle I suppose

He looked pretty emotional at the top to me. Interesting to hear him say that he had a big mental block when he did it on the very next go after falling on the top-out. I think bouldering at this level is a lot harder mentally than most people realize.

I don't know, I find bouldering to be pretty difficult emotionally at my limits as well.

Agreed. Emotional reactions should be based on relative skill and not so much overall grade. I get psyched to watch a new climber RP their first 10a (or whatever) in the gym! I attempted the same 5.9+ every day for 3 weeks when I first started climbing, finally got the RP and there have been very few ascents since then, of any climbing type, that have topped the joy I got from the top rope RP of that one measly gym route. I sure do miss blue/black on the south-side wall... but I digress.
I think it relates back to how you feel when you climb a route/problem. To me he looks a little surprised to have topped it out at that moment. I don't think anyone would argue that i's always nice to impress regardless of your climbing level.

typo*** it's always nice to impress yourself regardless of your climbing level.

I thought the mental block was more about overcoming fear after taking an unexpected fall due to a hold breaking high up. Could be I'm wrong.
