Tommy Caldwell Completes Last 5.14 Pitch Of Dawn Wall

The Dawn Wall saga continued last night as Tommy Caldwell completed the final 5.14 pitch of the free Dawn Wall, leaving just a handful of pitches that are "only" 5.13 and easier between him and the completion of his goal of free climbing the Dawn Wall.

Unfortunately, Kevin Jorgeson was not able to progress past Pitch 15 which has stymied him for a couple of days now, but it sounds like they are still committed to a team ascent so they will continue to wait things out.

Think you meant to title your post "The Great Dawn Wall Dilemma" ...

      Typo on my part

And nothing about Jorgeson "coming clean?????????"

        1. Narc

          What on earth?

            My thoughts exactly:

"Kevin Jorgeson, one of the very first 8a members, comes clean on Facebook " [Jorgeson quote]

-the one and fortunately only Jens

8a's "coverage" of this keeps getting more and more ludicrous with each passing hour

As do the laughably predictable responses you people make

Narc, your comment to the 8a.nu coverage of this story was gold. A simple "No.". Good stuff

Does this mean the famous dyno pitch is effectively dead?

    1. Seth

We'll have to wait and see if Kevin does the dyno or skirts it.

With the amount of attention that this climb has been getting (and that has been given by the climbers) it must feel shitty to be in Kevin's shoes right now. By that I'm referring to the pressure to perform especially since his partner has experienced an incredibly fortunate series of successes. Plus you just know he wants to send it so bad (and by all means can)

No doubt. I would also think that it's pretty unlikely that a big push like this is going to happen again which would be on my mind if I were him.

        Jorgenson and DiGullian.

What makes you think that, Brian? If this push shouldn't end in a satisfactory way to Tommy and Kevin (and it should be their opinion, not anybody else's), I reckon they'd give it another go as soon as they have recovered physically and mentally and conditions are good again?

        1. Scott

I think he was meaning if Tommy sends and Kevin doesn't, it may not happen again.

        2. Narc

Basically what Scott said. Although Kevin is not the type of person to give up so I could see him coming back if it doesn't work out this year, but it would not be easy. Hopefully he can make it happen now!

Makes sense. Also, am I wrong in thinking that this project as a whole (not just this push, but the whole thing) is still mostly Tommy's baby (which might corroborate further your hypothesis)? At what point did Kevin become a (surely welcome) staple in this?

Aren't Jorgeson's struggles is the best part of the story??? it confirms they are trying something crazy difficult. There are so many stories about successes.... why can't the "glorious failure" be just as legitimate?
